Cloaking Device
« on: October 14, 2005, 01:30:32 AM »

There is something that runs through my mind somewhat often, how does a cloaking device work?

- some say its bending the space around the ship, hiding 'under the covers of space'
- others say its deflecting light just as currently our stealth technology works with radar signals...

What is your opinion?

I think that I would support the notion specified in the memory alpha archives:

http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Cloaking_device

It suggests a technology which bends all forms of light and other EM radiation around the ship.

So in essence is works as our stealth technology currently does although a lot more complicated. This would also explain why a person could not see the cloaked bird of prey in central park in ST4 but still walk against it.

A Cloaking Device works like this I will try to explain the best I can.
The material that is made around the ship adsorbs the radar signals making it not show up on the screen same thing with our starships.  Our long range and short-range scanners cant detect it because the signals don’t bounce off of it and return to our scanners. The material the ship is made of takes it and the signals just stops. Normal scanners send out signals and the signals bounce off and return to the scanner and the scanners show the object but when cloaked then it don’t show

hope this is easy to read and that i could help
